My name is Nan Hamilton and I started at Northern in 2000. I teach Floral Design, Advanced Floral Design, and Advanced Plant Science (CASE). We do a lot of hands on type of work in my classes, and my goal is for all of my students to have an appreciation of flowers, plants, animals and the agricultural industry!
I am the Department Leader for the AgriScience Department and the Head FFA Advisor. I have a BS in Animal Science from Cook College at Rutgers University where I received my Teacher of Agriculture and Teacher of Comprehensive Science (K-12).certifications. I also have a certification in Commercial Flower Arranging and Floristry from the New York Botanical Gardens, Bronx, NY. I have taught at Marlboro High School (Physical Science), East Brunswick High School (Physics), and Ocean County Vocational Technical Schools (Horticulture). I have worked in the Floral Industry as a Floral Designer in New York City, a Floral Manager/Sales Manager for a supermarket wholesaler in and my husband and I owned a Floral Shop in Point Pleasant Beach, NJ for many years.
I reside in New Egypt, NJ with my husband. My children are grown now and Ashley (Boston University (BS)) lives in Boston, MA and is the Data Safety Manager for a major pharmaceutical company: Katie (Clemson University (BS) and Brenau University (MS) ) lives in Greenville, SC and is an Occupational Therapist;and Brian (Clemson University (BS)) lives in Hoboken, NJ and works for a major financial firm in New York City. I also have a grandson who is the love of my life!
