My name is Yu-Chiao Sung, but most people know me as Joy Sung. I am dual certified in English as a Second Language (ESL K-12) and Chinese as a Foreign Language (K-12). I graduated from University of Pennsylvania and received a Master’s degree in education (TESOL – Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) in 2013. Then I continued at Rutgers and got certified in 2015 to teach ESL and Chinese in the state of New Jersey.
I started my student teaching here at Northern Burlington from September to December 2015. I enjoyed working with both of my cooperating teachers at the time, and in February I was hired back as their ESL/Chinese teacher. And I’ve taught here since then. I have taught a variety of levels for high school Chinese and I have taught both ESL in middle school and in high school.
I love travelling and exploring different cultures, and I always make sure to include that in my classroom. I love languages and I teach my students the language as a tool and also as a cultural representation.
